Are you kidding? It's March Already!
Talk about March
Madness! I've been so busy, I temporarily forgot
about this Blog Business! Here's what's up...some
exciting news for Chelsea Charters!, we will be
presenting our new boat in just a few more weeks, and
she is beautiful! I've been planning this change for
quite some time, so every spare moment NOT fishing has
been spent finding this awesome boat, getting all the
paper work in place, and finally outfitting it
correctly! whew...almost there!
So anyway...about the
fish! The name of the game in February seemed to
remain Sails and Kings. We also took a few
successful yellowtail trips early in the month and
continued to see a stray mahi , tuna, wahoo, big
amberjacks and caribbean reef sharks here and there.
You know the #1 question asked of me is "what will we
catch?" While we charter captains can give you a
pretty good idea of the sure bets for your specific
charter date - the awesome thing about Florida Keys
fishing is that you can also expect the unexpected, you
just never know what will show up!
March has seen the
sails thin out and so we've been heading to the Hump,
when weather has permitted. This has brought us good
catches of Blackfin Tuna, no numbers of tremendous
size but good catches all in all. We're seeing quite a
few Dolphin out there this past week (mahi mahi) killer!
yum!
TIME TO FISH! Stay
tuned for new boat pics...

Recap
It's been another few
weeks of mostly great fishing, despite some
pretty cool and breezy days. The Sailfish bite has
slowed down a little bit but we're still able to put the
time in and land a few. Most have been really good
size...Jenna (a young girl from N.Jersey) landed her
first sail last week...it was much bigger than she was!
and bigger than the sail her brother brought in...she
earned her bragging rights...way to go! Trolling deeper
off the reef, the king and cero macks are biting well.
We're also still bringing in decent numbers of
yellowtail and have started to see some cobia.
Last week we hit on black, gag and red
grouper...unfortunately they were just short of keepers,
but we will start to see better numbers in the coming
month. We also had a few good days catching
Blackfin Tuna. The restaurant back at the dock was
happy to sear them up for the crew. Fishing
doesn't get better than this!, here in beautiful
Islamorada the opportunities are endless and plentiful!
Come on down for a day of battle with a gorgeous 100lb
Sailfish...while catching 20-40lb king macks! They are
hard fighting runners, on light tackle, lots o fun! Hope
to see you here!

Happy New Year!
So I've been pretty busy since New Years...I'll give
a short recap of the week. We spent a couple days
stocking up the crew with yellowtail and mangrove
snappers. They caught a 17lb African Pompano and a
few barracuda for sport.
The last few trips were for Sailfish...and the bite was
still going strong! We landed the largest of
the two day trip...at 8ft long...nice fish. Also
along the reef we caught half a dozen nice size schoolie
dolphin. The cero mackerel and kingfish also still
very plentiful. Great weather...Good fishing!

- Short Day
Winds continued to
pick up today. We decided to give it a shot in
close. We caught a handful of yellowtail and tried a
little spot where we hooked a couple small sharks.
Headed for the barn to try for a better day tomorrow.

- Breezy Days...Good Eats
We had a pretty breezy day to contend with and still
the boys had a great time pulling in the Yellowtail.
With 4&5 footers, we anchored on a good little spot
inside, where we found the ballyhoo super thick!
Good start! From there we continued to pull in
more than a dozen yellowtail...one of which was a
monster at least 4-5 lbs! Adding some Cero
Mackerel, mutton snapper, a yellowfin jack and a big
toothy barracuda to the shopping cart.

- Sailfishing
Still going strong on
the Sailfish bite!
We have been targeting these adrenaline hook-ups all
month with much success! Two and three hook-ups at
a time makes for some pretty exciting times on the
water! Had a couple first timers who had a blast
fighting, and YES, landing these sails. Way to go
guys! We were slow trolling live bait along the
reef edge the past few days and to make our trip even
better we managed to pull in a handful of surprise
mahi-mahi and quite a few king mackerel taboot!
All in all it was a great pre-holiday week out on the
water.
Merry Christmas to all!
